A CRUNCH meeting has been organised to tackle boy racers in Maldon after a meeting heard action was needed to prevent a fatal accident occurring.

Last week, the Standard revealed organisers behind an unauthorised car meet planned to host twice monthly events.

More than 50 cars turned up at the Blackwater Leisure Centre car park last Saturday, but failed to get permission from Maldon District Council.

The meet went off without a hitch, but it followed two crackdowns which saw 122 motorists receive prosecution notices for speeding, including one motorist travelling at 70 mph along the 30 mph Mundon Road.

Now, it has been revealed a multi-agency meeting is being held next month to discuss boy racers in the town.

At a council crime and disorder committee meeting, deputy leader Mark Durham questioned police bosses on finding a solution.

He said: “There is going to be a serious or fatal accident, whether it is the user of the car or a member of the public.”
