YOUNGSTERS armed with bacon and nets tried to catch Maldon’s crabbing crown.

The annual Maldon Crabbing Competition attracted more than 80 competitors of all ages on Saturday.

Families gathered around the boating lake, in Maldon’s Promenade Park, in a bid to catch the weightiest crustacean.

Robert Slight, of Maldon Carnival Committee, said: “It was a really good day in the end. The rain held off until it had finished.

“It’s always a busy competition.”
