A blunder which saw over 1,000 residents being sent postal votes for two constituencies is being reviewed by the Electoral Commission.

Last April, 1,172 residents who live in the Maldon district but fall under the Witham parliamentary constituency were sent postal votes for both Witham and Maldon ahead of the May General Election.

This month it emerged during an Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting that the independent government watchdog has placed the council under review.

Ms Marshall, the council's Chief Executive and electoral Returning Officer, said: "The Returning Officer is now in the process of undertaking a robust review of processes and is confident that such an error will not occur in the future."
