Organisers had great hopes for this year’s Blackwater Match on July 25 as the number of entries was eleven barges high.

There were  two yacht barges and a good number of smacks expected to take part.

However, unfortunately weather conditions meant the race started late with winds blowing near gale force.

With eight barges remaining in Maldon, three took part in the 12.30pm start at Osea Island with one competitor in each class.

Organiser Pat Boss, said: “The camaraderie was as great as ever."
