A school now has its sights set on an outstanding Ofsted.

William de Ferrers School has achieved an overall “good” Ofsted rating after having previously been told it “required improvement” in July 2013.

The latest report praises leadership by the headteacher Neal McGowan, as well as a rapid improvement in teaching English, good behaviour, above average attendance, wide curriculum choice and improved achievement of disadvantaged children.

The report noted: “Governors appointed the new headteacher to bring about a significant improvement in standards.

“They have supported him and other leaders in a turbulent time as staff and parents adjust to the new expectations.”
