It's time to get muddy!

Maldon Mud Race will be taking place on Sunday, April 26, and is expected to draw thousands of people from across the country and abroad.

The world’s media will also be descending to cover the extraordinary event, which will feature 300 fundraising entrants battling their way through thick mud from the shoreside, across the estuary and back.

Chairman of The Maldon Mud Race, Brian Farrington said: “It’s the same day as the London Marathon and we thought we would struggle for entrants, but we have been inundated.

“People are very excited about it."

Last year saw 25,000 people attend and this year Mr Farrington is hoping for a bumper turnout.

Celebrities have taken part in the past, including Jo Brand and Sean Lock, but Mr Farrington is not aware of any signing up this year.

Huge TV screens will capture every moment, plus there will be plenty of fun and entertainment throughout the day from 11am.

At 11.30pm, the duck race will take place and the Mud Race itself will start at about 1pm.
