A military museum is appealing for more volunteers.

The Combined Military Services Museum was recently successful in recruiting a team of volunteers to help preserve its tank collection, thanks to an appeal through the Standard.

Work is now soon to start on the museum’s Thunderbird surface to air missile.

The small team looking after these exhibits ranges from retired engineers to a retired Sgt Major from the Royal Tank Regiment.

Museum manager Angela Bliss said: “Who could be more skilled!

“These volunteers are a huge asset to the museum, which is a charitable trust, set up by its director, Richard Wooldridge, 10 years ago.

“The team love the work and enjoy the chance to get to play with genuine big boys toys.

“It is an opportunity they have found here in Maldon which cannot be found in many places nationally.”

The trust is now looking to recruit some in house volunteers.

The role would involve dealing with the public, handling cash, welcoming and introducing visitors to the museum in Station Road, Maldon, and its collection.

The role would suit a retired person looking to be part of an enthusiastic team, a person looking for work experience, or anyone looking to volunteer as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer in this award winning museum should call Angela on 01621 841826.
