Vision for Maldon retirement complex unveiled
Work has started on a retirement development.
McCarthy and Stone has started constructing 29 privately-owned flats in Maldon for the over 60s.
Celebrating the history of the town, the new development on Whitehorse Lane will officially be named Lawrence Place, in recognition of Lawrence Washington.
A former resident of Maldon and vicar of Purleigh in 1662, Lawrence Washington was the great great grandfather of George Washington, the first president of the United States of America.
Elaine Stratford, of McCarthy and Stone, explains: “It was important to us that we choose a name that would have meaning to the local area, and what better to have one that reflects the long history of Maldon.”
