An old booklet describing Maldon as the “pearl of the east coast” has brought back plenty of memories.
The official guide to the “borough of Maldon and district” describes the town as being “ideal for holidays” and the perfect place to come for health and beauty.
Barry Anthony, 70, unearthed the guide while recently clearing out his late mother Dorothy’s bungalow in Essex Road.
The guide shows the diving board at Marine Lake in Promenade Park and advertises bathing, golf, boating, fishing, tennis, plus “free” use of swings and a seesaw.
The phone number for the Blue Boar Hotel was 25 and the number for Albert Bunting - The People’s Butcher was 71.
According to the booklet, the butchers had already been established for 50 years.
Mr Anthony said: “It brought back memories.
“Some of it is before my time."
