More than 200 people turned out to view the masterplan for 1,235 new homes in Heybridge.
Countryside held a public exhibition of its latest masterplan proposals for the North Heybridge Garden Suburb.
The display, at Drapers Farm Sports Club last Thursday, attracted crowds of residents who recognised a need for more housing but also raised concerns about the type of housing being provided and infrastructure.
Retired Geoff Cox, 66, of Heywood Way, is a committee member on the Heybridge Residents’ Association.
He said: “Our concerns are flooding.
“It’s a major issue where I live and it seems to be getting worse every year.
“What effect 1,300 plus houses will have on the infrastructure and the drainage ditches is a major concern."
Countryside spokesman Antony Calvert said: “We’re obviously committed to providing flood alleviation and it has a project start date with delivering homes.”
