A beloved mother and well known character around Burnham town has died, aged 77.

Valerie Law, lived with her husband Ron, both 77, in Russet Way, Burnham for nearly four decades.

She was well known as the secretary of the allotments and for cycling around Burnham, ‘whatever the weather’, according to her daughter Marie.

Marie, 44, said: “She started at the allotments in 1980 and only stopped in 2014, she was absolutely dedicated.

“She liked going out there and meeting everyone whenever she could, she would sit in the allotment hut and people would come in and talk to her.

“She would help them with their problems.”

Mayor of Burnham, Ron Pratt, paid tribute to Mrs Law.

He said: “Many people will remember Val with fondness in her role as secretary to the Allotment Association.

“She was a stalwart of the association for 30 years and a familiar face in the hut, she always said it was a lovely way to meet people.

“The town council was delighted to present the lifetime achievement award to Val and her husband Ron in 2010, in appreciation of many years of dedicated service.”
