Heybridge residents fear they may face more flooding if action isn’t taken to remedy numerous blocked drains and culverts.
Heybridge Residents Association chairman Don Benson recently took a group of parish and district councillors on a tour of the area’s drainage system to highlight the “disgusting” state of it.
He said: “We should not be in this despicable situation.
“It’s basically simple, get the ditches cleaned out and we’re in with a fighting chance.
“Otherwise it’s people’s homes that will be damaged."
An Essex County Council spokesman said: “All road drains and gullies Essex Highways is responsible for across the county are routinely checked and cleaned annually."
