A Maldon mum is celebrating after winning an appeal against a council's refusal to house her because she has a property in Spain.

Della Brockis, of Maldon and her children Lois, 16, and Kekoa, ten, moved to Spain for her husband’s work in 2005 but left their Spanish home and returned to England in 2010 after the couple split up.

She rented a house in Heybridge but in April 2013, she was given notice on the property and days later diagnosed with breast cancer.

Shortly after she was offered a temporary home by Maldon District Council but, just two weeks after she had major surgery, she received a letter telling her that she was not entitled to be rehoused because she part owned the Spanish property.

She was told she would have to leave the Maldon house and it was suggested that she return to Spain with her children.
