Police have issued an advisory warning after fraudsters contacted two people and tried to take their bank details.

A police spokesman said: “Two elderly people, one in Chelmsford and one in Maldon, reported this in the last week.

“We want to make people aware that if you are being contacted by someone who states they are a police officer, who has someone in custody with your bank details and says they are putting you through to your bank, do not give any of your details and terminate the call.

“Note down any account details given and try and use 1471 to get their number.

“Make sure you report it.”
