Hopes are high that Maldon could soon have a “vibrant and lively” High Street market.

Following the success of the new Burnham market Maldon District Council is taking another look at the market provision in Maldon, with officers reviewing options for a market in a High Street location.

The market is currently held every Thursday and Saturday in the Butt Lane car park.

Councillor David Williams has expressed his desire to see it follow in the footsteps of Burnham’s market and suggested looking at other successful markets, such as Bury St Edmunds for inspiration.

A council spokesman said: “Discussions have now commenced with interested parties to establish if it would be possible to locate a market similar to that being held in Burnham within Maldon."
