There's no excuse to stay at home this Bank Holiday weekend.

Plenty of events are taking place across the district to keep families entertained.

*Burnham Week - the historic east coast sailing regatta - is currently in full swing. 

A packed eight-day festival, from August 23 - 30, of sailing events and popular social occasions are expected to draw the crowds.

*Bell Meadow Day will be taking place in Woodham Walter from 12.30pm on Sunday.

The annual village event, staged on Bell Meadow, has plenty of traditional country show attractions including a gun dog demonstration, craft stalls, beer tent, live music and plenty more.

*Crabbing, boating and other seaside attractions will keep the family entertained.

Quay Day will take place from 11am on Monday during the famous Burnham Week Sailing Regatta.

Visitors will be able to watch the racing unfold from prime positions on the Quay front.

There will be many activities to keep crowds amused, a crabbing tournament, boating, bouncy slides, Ring Noddy’s Bell sideshow and plenty more seaside fun.

* It's full steam ahead for a railway museum’s anniversary gala. 

Mangapps Railway Museum Steam and Gala weekend will take place from 11.30am -5pm tomorrow, Sunday and Monday.

Celebrations will involve a Diesel Gala tomorrow, and steam and diesel trains on Sunday and Monday.

*Cricket and family fun will be the name of the game when Rock up For Randall takes place this Sunday at Drapers Farm, Goldhanger Road, Maldon, where the gates will open at 9.30am.

Matches start from 10.30am. During the course of the day there will also be plenty of attractions for visitors to enjoy, including a barbecue, balloon race, bouncy castle, splat the rat, stocks, loom band making, cake stall and tombola.

*Burnham Art Club will be holding a 50th anniversary exhibition.

More than a hundred framed paintings and dozens of unframed will be for sale at by talented local artists, many of whom take part in the Maldon and Burnham Art Trails.

The display will be available to view from Saturday until August 31 at the Burnham Museum, in Coronation Road.

Opening hours are 10am to 6pm weekends and bank holiday Monday, and between 2pm to 5pm Tuesday to Friday.

*A Bank Holiday market will take place in Maldon.

The market will be based at Promenade Park from 9am - 4pm weather and ground conditions permitting.

*The Queen's Head in Burnham will be holding a beer festival.

From today until Monday, the pub will have more than 20 real ales, ciders and perries for thirsty customers to try.

The pub can be found at 26 Providence.

*Frocks and flowers will be the theme of a Bank Holiday museum display.

Maldon Museum, also known as Museum in the Park, will be open from today until Monday.
