Residents are “thrilled” and “elated” after plans for 24 homes in their village were withdrawn.

The homes were destined for North Street, Tillingham on land owned by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral.

Strutt and Parker submitted their application in April 2014 and it was withdrawn last Thursday.

Mr Knight said he was thrilled by the withdrawal.

He said: “This is only the first battle, I’m fairly certain they will come back, but hopefully it will be more in keeping with the conservation area.

“There are options, but that proposal would rip the end of Tillingham out.

“It’s a victory for the ones against it, it was only a small group of us.”
