Speedy internet may be reaching the area, as councillors expressed an interest in making a financial contribution to get wider delivery of Superfast Broadband.

Essex County Council wrote to councils county-wide in May asking for expressions of interest and whether councils might make funds available to expand the superfast infrastructure programme.

For 95% of Maldon to be connected to superfast broadband, it would cost £738,509.

Maldon district council would pay £90,994 towards the cost, with ECC paying the rest.

Currently only 36.2% of Maldon is reached by superfast broadband, in comparison with Harlow and Southend, where 90% is covered.
