Festival-goers have been warned that legal highs and laughing gas will not be tolerated at this year’s festival.
Jonathan Graham, 33, of Great Baddow, died after taking a legal highs last year at Brownstock.
Essex Police, Essex County Council and Chelmsford City Council are stepping up checks and patrols at the festival and at V Festival to stop anyone trying to sell legal highs and laughing gas - the popular name for nitrous oxide.
Anyone caught will be ejected from the festivals and the drugs will be confiscated by the police.
Councillor Roger Walters, ECC’s Cabinet Member for Trading Standards, said: “So called legal highs are extremely dangerous because there is nothing to regulate what they are made from.
“Some contain illegal drugs or can lead to serious medical emergencies and even death.
“I want festival-goers to have fun but not to take a risk with either so called legal highs or nitrous oxide which can also result in serious side effects, especially when combined with alcohol.”
