Young workers are finding it hard to fly the nest, because they cannot afford to move out.
A survey by Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, released figures last Tuesday showing nearly half of all young workers still live at home.
41.1% of all working 20 to 34-year-olds in Maldon, dubbed the ‘clipped wing generation’ have to live at home with their parents, because they cannot afford to rent or buy their own home.
Shelter’s chief executive, Campbell Robb, said there were over a million young adults, ‘trapped in their childhood bedrooms’.
He said: “The ‘clipped wing generation’ are finding themselves living with mum and dad well into adulthood as they struggle to find a home of their own, or face a lifetime of unstable, expensive private renting."
