Crowds line the street to welcome East London Cabbies Outing
5:00pm Friday 4th July 2014 in Local News
Crowds lined Maldon's streets to give a special welcome to disabled children enjoying the annual East London Cabbies Outing.
Armed with flags and balloons, shoppers, residents and shop workers turned out to cheer and wave as 72 taxis drove through the town as part of a special day out for the 150 youngsters and their carers.
The convoy of cabs ferried the children, who were from East London, Romford, Dangenham, through the town, past St Peter's Hospital and along Maldon High Street before parking up at The Plume for lunch, where there was entertainment and a band.
Ken Flemwell, of Stanford le Hope, said: "We got a lovely welcome from the people of Maldon, there were people waving and cheering and the drivers hooted their horns.
"It was a wild party really, they had a ball and it continued down at the Promenade Park where there was a magic show and face painting."
