A man died after being struck by a train yesterday evening.
The body of a man in his 40s was discovered after reports that a man had been struck by a train at Burnham station.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were contacted shortly after 7.30pm following reports that a person had been struck by a train.
“Officers attended and found a body of a man in his 40s from the Southend area.”
An East of England Ambulance Trust spokesman said: "We sent one ambulance, an ambulance officer and the Essex Air Ambulance but despite the best efforts of everyone involved he was pronounced dead at the scene."
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Essex Police and the British Transport Police will hold a joint investigation into circumstances surrounding the death.
An inquest into the death will be opened by the coroner.
