A Maldon firm are involved in a project to build a car that will break the 1,000mph barrier.

DC Electronics based at Quayside Industrial Park in Bates Road, Maldon, is supplying the complete vehicle electrical system, including electric power steering system, for the BloodHound SSC.

The jet and rocket powered car is faster than the speed of sound and its engines produce more than 135,000 horsepower - more than six times the power of all the Formula 1 cars on a starting grid put together.

It is a mix of car and aircraft technology and the project team hope to new world land speed record in the Kalahari desert, South Africa, in September 2016.
