Restricting free parking would be a positive move, say councillors.
Drivers can currently park free all day in Foundry Lane and Millfields, Burnham.
Maldon District Council is proposing to limit it to two hours with no return within three hours.
Businesses and residents told the Standard last week they were concerned parking was already difficult and it could lead to further congestion in side roads, or discourage shoppers.
Burnham Town Council clerk David McNeill told it would allow more people to park.
Councillor Neil Pudney said: “People have complained to me they are unable to park in Foundry Lane because there are cars parked in there for hours."
Town councillors also discussed a request by traders to limit parking in a shopping parade in Station Road.
