A second plan for a churchyard once dominated by a large oak tree has been unveiled.
Maldon architect, Paul Lonergan, would like to see the churchyard in front of the town’s Plume Library and Maeldune Heritage Centre turned into a large open space with new trees and benches, and recycled Thames barge masts, which could be used to advertise events.
The site has become exposed after a 100-year-old holm oak was felled in January due to a fungal infection.
Mr Lonergan is the second person to have drawn up ideas for the site.
Chartered designer Tony Claydon has an alternative vision for a two-storey glass building attached to the library and heritage centre, providing new entrances to both, a lift, tourist information centre, new toilets and a kitchen.
