New charges to empty Burnham’s dog mess bins has incensed town councillors.
At a Burnham Town Council meeting on Wednesday, councillors decided to write a letter of complaint to Maldon District Council after they were told to pay for emptying any new dog mess bins in the town.
Previously, Maldon District Council has paid the bill.
Councillors were shocked to discover that they now must stump up the cash to empty the new bins that they install in the town.
Charges include £10 per year for a low-use bin, £35 for a medium-use bin and £75 for a high-use bin.
The charges may mean an increase in the council’s precept, according to councillor Una Norman.
