Burnham councillors to complain over new charges to bins

New charges to empty Burnham’s dog mess bins has incensed town councillors.

At a Burnham Town Council meeting on Wednesday, councillors decided to write a letter of complaint to Maldon District Council after they were told to pay for emptying any new dog mess bins in the town.

Previously, Maldon District Council has paid the bill.

Councillors were shocked to discover that they now must stump up the cash to empty the new bins that they install in the town.

Charges include £10 per year for a low-use bin, £35 for a medium-use bin and £75 for a high-use bin.

The charges may mean an increase in the council’s precept, according to councillor Una Norman.

Opsiomath says...

WHAT ? .. Another increase in Burnham's rates over and above the £25, 000 rate surcharge that BTC have imposed over the past 3 years?!

Although the bin emptying charge is wrong in principle, if it only applies to NEW bins it can't be a large annual amount

Another increase in rates is ill thought out
