New town councillor looks set to be co-opted after no by-election is called

First published in Local News

A new town councillor looks likely to be co-opted.

No by-election was called for a vacancy on Maldon Town Council’s south ward following the resignation of John Bunkell.

Under electoral legislation, ten electors for the ward must give formal notice within 14 days to trigger such an election, but that did not happen.

The council is now expected to invite applications, which will be considered at a future meeting.

A date has yet to be set.
