Villagers are pleased with the decision for homes in Heybridge Basin

A village conservation group are celebrating after plans to demolish a former timber yard and build houses was rejected.

Members of the Heybridge Basin Conservation Society feared that the plans for 31 homes, which included houses with six bedrooms, would “spoil” the village.

One Property Group submitted plans to Maldon District Council for the demolition of the warehouse and saw mills in Basin Road and build 21 three and five-bedroom houses, as well as ten four and six-bedroom houses.

However councillors at a central area planning committee meeting on March 19 voted to reject the plans because it would create an “overbearing relationship” with houses that are already built nearby.

That's right we don't need houses, I forgot. We need ex building yards. NIMBYs - it will be turned over on appeal and a good thing to.

Yeah, thanks for your efforts conservationists, when this does get turned over on appeal you'll have social and affordable housing mixed in amongst it too, as that, if you read the planning notes was the first reason it was rejected, not cos of the cotton top warriors up above, so good work on that and keep smiling ;-/

The old timberyard is a total eyesore, has been for years, but of course this doesn't *spoil* the village at all!. These NIMBY's are their own worst enemies. Perhaps if a few more houses were built in Heybridge Basin it may be viable to reopen a shop there?

Is official NIMBY uniform now a red anorak... or does that denote advanced membership of the Basin Swingers?
