Angry villagers are outraged over plans to build more than 100 homes in a farmer’s field.

Along with other planned housing, almost 500 new homes could be built in Southminster.

About 200 people packed out the parish rooms, in Queensborough Road, last Wednesday to discuss the intention of building 128 houses at Theedham’s Farm, in Scotts Hill, opposite land already allocated for 117 houses.

A planning application has yet to be submitted to Maldon District Council.

As well as proposals to build the two-bed, three-bed and four-bed houses, the plans include a bypass leading north from the roundabout to Steeple Road, provision of a shop and site set aside for a medical centre.

As part of the plans, Steeple Road will become a cul-de-sac and the bypass will link to upper Steeple Road.
