Plans are underway for a new healthcare centre, outpatient unit, GP surgery and food store.

Kensington and Edinburgh Estates Limited hopes to develop land behind Maldon Cemetery, at Maldon Hall Farm off Spital Road.

Its plans, which include homes, offices and a 60-bed care home, come three years after it first offered to build a new hospital free of charge to the taxpayer at the site, in exchange for permission to turn St Peter’s Hospital into a supermarket.

Latchingdon....Wasn'
t there a story a few weeks ago that the little independent supermarket at the top of the High Street was closing due to lack of business... we can't all have two shops in our main street ya know

The nail in the coffin appears to be people apart from you are apparently not using the little supermarket at the top of the High Street... but then we're getting a Morrisions local and the town doom-sayers don't like that as its going to have to have deliveries... so they don't like a retail unit in a retail centre.... or the pub proposed before that... Looks like Maldon's High Street is doomed unless someone is more welcoming to business in the district in general.

Unless we see some forward thinking and less complaining Maldon will die on its bum soon due to lack of investment and general unwelcoming attitude to any development to better the place.
