Four Maldon school pupils have launched a campaign to bring the swimming lake back to the town’s Promenade Park.
Tom Amner, George Barton, James Harris and Kye Hedgecock, who attend lower Plume School, intend to petition to bring back the popular tourist attraction, which closed more than 10 years ago after dad-of-two Kevin Gay died there.
The Year 9 pupils came up with the ambitious project in their personal, social and health education (PSHE) lessons.
They are now drafting a letter to Maldon MP John Whittingdale and Maldon District Council officers and later hope to have petitions set up in the town’s shops.
Kye, 13, said: “I remember going there when I was one or two and it was a great place to be.”
James, 14, said: “We believe it offers a lot of financial opportunities to the town, for example it could help by having different restaurants and family orientated activities at the park.”
