A proposal to build a memorial feature for Maldonians who have died in wars has been delayed due to lack of money.
Bob Boyce, leader of Maldon District Council, suggested that the council could contribute towards a map pointing out the graves of those who had sacrificed their lives through warfare and display it in the Promenade Park.
But the feature, which is estimated to cost about £6,000, was not included in this year’s council budget due to Government cutbacks.
Mr Boyce said: “Certainly I think it is appropriate to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
“The Maldon district has got a lot of association with the First World War with the airfield at Stow Maries and the navy were based at Osea Island."
