Campaigners for protecting Maldon’s character fear a new high street convenience shop will cause congestion and noise.

The Maldon Society has raised concerns about plans for a Morrisons M Local at the former post office in the High Street.

Maldon District Council will discuss the supermarket’s licence application on Monday.

The society said the proposed opening hours, which could be from 6am to midnight, were inappropriate and asked for them to be restricted.

Members were also worried about deliveries adding to congestion because of inadequate access at the back of the row of shops.
