Councillors have called for clarification on the future of Burnham's fire service.

Mike Wood raised the issue at Burnham Town Council after contacts told him of "widespread reduction of the fire service in the Dengie" and "talk of a station being created in Southminster and this one in Burnham being closed."

The fire service told the Standard there are no plans to change fire cover in Burnham, Tillingham or the Dengie and no changes are planned for Burnham or Tillingham fire stations."

Councillors said comments by assistant divisional officer Simon Dedman that "there are no plans to alter the fire service cover in Burnham," did not guarantee the station will stay.
