Permission has been granted to change a former 19th century barn into a wedding venue.

The Grade II listed barn at High House Farm, in Old Heath Road, Althorne, will be converted and a bridal suite built.

Maldon District Council's south eastern planning committee granted planning permission subject to conditions, including restricting the use of fireworks, restricting opening hours for guests, customers and visitors to 1pm to midnight, and setting noise levels.

Seriously why cant the marriage celebrant be registered - and hold weddings wherever. Like your back garden. Or, if people want to use the local park they just check it with the council. or the pub. Or it's up to them.. Having to have places 'regsitered' means costs go up ...

It shouldn't just be a choice of the town hall for a civil wedding or the local posh Hall - the back garden should be fine!
