The owner of a timber yard is appealing for witnesses after £4,000 worth of hand tools were stolen from his office.

Thieves stole a chainsaw and bench, worth £1,000, three nail guns, an electric welder, a cordless drill and impact winch from the yard in Broad Street Green Road, Great Totham, between Sunday and Monday.

The thieves even left behind their own wheelbarrow, which is thought to be what they used to remove the tools from the workshop.

Bob Gower, 63, who runs Southwood timber yard with his two sons, said: “You think you are safe and you put everything in place to stop people from breaking in but obviously you can never be safe enough.

“They broke into the workshop and then the office and then into a steel box, which the tools were in.

“It is a bit of a shock as it is so rural out here, you don’t expect it to happen."
