A darts expert is to appear on The One Show.

Dr Patrick Chaplin, known as Dr Darts, will reveal who he really believed invented the numbering sequence for the dartboard.

Mr Chaplin, of Norfolk Road, Maldon, is the world’s only darts academic and was invited to film for the BBC show to coincide with the British Darts Organisation’s Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship.

Brian Gamlin, a carpenter from Bury in Lancashire, is purported to have invented the numbering sequence in 1896 but died before he could patent the idea.

But Mr Chaplin, 63, has found no evidence that he ever existed.

He will appear on The One Show on January 10.
