New speed limit plea for village street after parked cars hit

Maldon and Burnham Standard: Mr Major's neighbour's car was badly damaged in a crash in South Street, Tillingham Mr Major's neighbour's car was badly damaged in a crash in South Street, Tillingham

A villager whose car was struck and written off is calling for a lower speed at an accident “hotspot”.

Fed-up Iain Major, 45, of South Street, Tillingham, was shocked when a BMW ploughed into his Renault Laguna, his neighbour’s Renault Clio and into the corner of a nearby house last Wednesday morning.

Hi car also had a rear wheel knocked off.

The Ford engineer, who also had his work car hit when it was parked outside his house in 2012, fears that a car may end up crashing through his front room.

Now he wants Essex County Council to drop the street’s speed limit to 20 miles per hour as well as install speed bumps.

He said: “It’s lethal. The way the street is the cars park on one side of the road and we have to park on the other side, we create a natural chicane."

Judging by the picture the car which had the accident was doing over the speed limit so an argument for lowering the speed limit is not valid.

So, he wants to penalise al drivers who happily go through the section of road at the current speed limit because a couple of people break the law. Not logical.

He says
'cars park on one side of the road and we have to park on the other side,'

Why not park on the side of the road everyone else parks on? That seems more logical to me.

I agree with Jack, However they don't park on the same side of the road due to drives to houses etc. and it is a pain in the bum section of road. What i'd like to know is where the BMW driver was from, ie. was he local to Tillingham or a surrounding village? If so then they know exactly what the road was like and a drop in the speed limit would be a waste of time.

But as said looking at the damage i'd say nearer 50 than 30 or drunk or not paying attention, If any of the above are correct then a 20mph limit will be a waste of time..

Have to say where I live most cars speed through and that includes most of the residents..Strange that the local cops always choose a sunny Sunday to catch the bikers but are never there between the hours of 7-9 or 5-7pm on a weekday when they'd easily catch ten times as many people speeding.

Odd isn't it if safety is a priority???

Looks like karma has come round.... This is the same person who persistently blocked someone's driveway, and the bloke got so fed up he smashed all his windows with a sledgehammer.
Was reported in the M&B in the summer!
