Residents in Holloway Road, Heybridge, experienced deja vu when their street flooded yet again.

The road flooded last Christmas day and has flooded again after last night's storms.

It was also affected by heavy downpours throughout this year.

Now fed-up residents are hoping the floods will convince Maldon District Council to not build 1,235 of extra houses in north Heybridge.

John Hanson, who owns a bed and breakfast in Holloway Road, said: “Unfortunately this is part and parcel of our life here.
“The ditches can’t cope and once it’s breached then that’s it."

Fellow Holloway Road resident Susan Ryall, 53, a client relations manager, said: “It’s awful that it happens around Christmas.

“Last Christmas it was on Christmas Day. We were trying to protect our houses and trying to cook Christmas dinner at the same time, it was a nightmare."
