Prestigious war medals belonging to a Maldon war hero have been donated to his former school.
An anonymous donor sent the 1939-45 Star medal, the Africa Star First Army 1942-1943 medal, the War Medal 1939-45 (George) to the Plume School in Fambridge Road.
The medals belonged to Lance-Sergeant William George Frederick Barnard, who was a pupil at the school in the early 1930s and volunteered to become a soldier at the outbreak of the Second World War.
He died aged 28 in Tunisia.
His family, at his request, never received his medals and today he has no living relatives.
