Head to leave Tillingham's primary school

Maldon and Burnham Standard: Ofsted have carried out a monitoring inspection at St Nicholas Primary School in Tillingham Ofsted have carried out a monitoring inspection at St Nicholas Primary School in Tillingham

A headteacher has resigned after two years in post from a school that Ofsted deemed to need improving.

St Nicholas Primary School in Tillingham was inspected in July and was said to need improving overall, although pupil behaviour and safety was judged good.

The report, and a letter from inspector Christopher Moodie, who carried out a monitoring inspection earlier this month, said headteacher Paula Hagan had made improvements to teaching quality.

Miss Hagan has resigned since the inspection to become head of Long Melford Primary School in Suffolk.

Mr Moodie’s follow-up inspection said teachers are consistently providing work in mathematics that offers the right challenge to pupils but this is not the case in literacy.

He also said the quality of marking is improving and the feedback pupils receive is good in most classes.
