A cafe has been granted permission to serve alcohol.
Some residents near Parlour Cafe in Ferry Road, Burnham, had raised concerns it would become like a nightclub and were worried about noise pollution or drink driving.
Emily and Harry Wilsdon, who run the cafe and adjoining Creeksea Place Barns, said the licence would allow them to host dance nights or film screenings and performances of live or recorded music.
Maldon District Council’s licensing sub-committee granted the application, subject to the usual mandatory conditions.
Councillors also added an extra two: for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, pre-booked tickets are needed for entry after 11pm and amplified music outdoors is not allowed after 11pm on any night.
