A leisure quarter including cinema, tourist attractions and a park-and-ride could be on the cards for Maldon.
Maldon District Council is in the early stages of coming up with a masterplan to regenerate the centre of Maldon and Heybridge.
It is especially focusing on improving business and retail space in The Causeway and creating a leisure quarter incorporating Madison Heights, Maldon Leisure Centre, the Battle of Maldon site and Promenade Park.
Options include:
- An “iconic visitor centre” with restaurant and conference rooms
- Maldon Salt visitor attraction based on the history of salt making since Roman times
- cinema
- shops
- park-and-ride shuttle bus to link the leisure quarter and town centre.
A report to councillors said: “Opportunities have been identified to improve the visitor experience and offer the area as a weekend destination rather than causal day tripping in summer months.”
