Firefighters tackled a blaze that engulfed a restaurant's kitchen.

Two fire engines from Maldon attended the Prezzo restaurant in the High Street at 9.30am today, after oil from a deep fat fryer caught alight.

The fire soon became out of control and damaged much of the kitchen.

When firefighters arrived at the restaurant, the two storey building was 25 per cent alight.

They wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet and dry powder to extinguish the fire by 10.12am.

A high pressure fan was used to clear the property of smoke.

See next week's MBS (out on Thursday) for a full interview with the restaurant's general manager about the fire.
