Maldon district: Road safety scheme budget slashed
3:00pm Friday 18th October 2013 in Local News
The budget for road safety schemes across the Maldon district has been slashed by more than a quarter.
County Hall originally gave the district £400,000 for projects in 2013/14, but has now decided to claw back £116,350 which has not been earmarked for specific schemes.
Instead, the money will go towards general maintenance across Essex, as well as a park and ride expansion and a widening scheme in Chelmsford.
Across the county, Essex has proposed taking back £4.5 million of the £8 million budget allocated to districts.
An Essex Highways spokesman said budgets had to be revised because of the large number of schemes prioritised by local highways panels.
