Maldon: Search for battle evidence draws a blank
A search for artefacts from the Battle of Maldon at Northey Island has proved fruitless.
The Northey Island Uncovered event, set up by the National Trust, saw residents and history enthusiasts scouring for remnants of the battle in what is the officially recognised site at the weekend.
Instead people found a type of coin or loyalty card, believed to be from 19th century London.
Local historian Stephen Nunn has been campaigning for years against Northey Island being the officially recognised site of the battle and instead suggests that Heybridge is a more accurate location.
He felt that the weekend’s finds only served to prove his theory right.
