Burnham: 'Eyesore' office block to be demolished for 14 houses
An “eyesore” office block in Burnham will be demolished to make way for 14 houses.
District councillors have granted planning permission for seven townhouses and seven detached homes to be built at the CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) site in Remembrance Avenue at the planning and licensing committee last Thursday.
The permission was granted on the proviso that £45,637 will be given to primary schools in Burnham and a further contribution towards off-site affordable homes in the town, which has yet to be agreed upon.
Applicant Paul Stoodley hopes to transform the site into a mixture of four or five bedroom houses spread across three-and-a-half stories.
Planning officers had recommended planning permission be refused.
Their concerns included that the layout and scale of the housing development was out of keeping with the conservation area and type of housing did not meet the community’s needs.
