Maldon: District rated one of the worst in Essex for road deaths
The Maldon district has one of the highest rates of road injuries and deaths in Essex, it has been revealed.
The 2013 health profile for the district, compiled by the Department of Health, showed that there were 35 road deaths and injuries a year, averaging out at 56.1 per 100,000 people, compared with 41.9 nationally and 46.8 in Essex.
MP John Whittingdale now wants people to drive slower and safer in an effort to combat the problem.
He said: “You can bring in speed limits, put in speed bumps or narrow the roads but there is only so much you can do.
“I do believe that improving the standard of driving would go a long way to solving the problem.”
