6:00pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Local News
MORE THAN 100 people took part in a 75 mile race along Maldon district’s coast.
The two-day Saltmarsh 75 challenge, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, is a new event that saw participants walking or running through fields, along sea walls, mudflats and saltmarshes along the distinctive coast line.
Day one covered a route along the River Crouch from South Woodham Ferrers, through the Dengie Marshes and on to Bradwell-on-Sea.
The second day followed an overnight stop in Steeple before tackling 37 miles through Maldon, Goldhanger and Tollesbury.
Participants were then faced with a final five miles around the edge of the Old Hall Marshes nature reserve before the finish line in Salcott-cum-Virley.
Organiser Jono Stevens, said: "It's been brilliant, we have had a hell of a time, the weather has been amazing and the competitors all put in loads of effort."
